CORDED PETTICOAT

This corded petticoat was inspired by The Brother's Grimm fairy-tale 'The Frog King'. This type of petticoat would have been placed over a bustle or cage and therefore I have incorporated a simple frill decoration.

This project allowed me to experiment further with decorative techniques. I experimented with a variety of natural dyes that would colour the fabric a rich yellow/or green to create a pond like effect.

In the end I hand dyed using ground turmeric and a green dye. To link back to 'The Frog King', I hand printed using a stencil, the image of a frog and lilypads just above the frill which goes around the whole petticoat.

The petticoat itself has 8 rows of cording at the bottom, then a frill, a decorative border followed by a further 5 cording above.
