CIRCUS CLOWN COSTUME

I completed this project in 2019, which allowed me to design and make a jumpsuit and pinefore for a clown, to be worn at a circus performance.

The jumpsuit and pinefore were made from fabric scraps, to which I added elastic around the neckline, wrist and knees. I experimented with a number of decorative techniques, but the checker pattern was the most successful. The bright fluroscent colours immediately catch your eyes and compliment the costume. The top part of the pinefore has been hand spray painted. A large decorative hand marbled printed bow adds character to the piece. 

For this costume I undertook a significant amount of research and experimental work to develop my ideas. This included Henri Matisse, catwalk shows, transfer printing and spray painting.

To accompany the clown's costume I made dungarees with alterate fabric on each leg. The block of red contrasts with the tartan.
